Champion relay sprinter Emmy Albus was born on December 13, 1911 in Wuppertal, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Albus won a gold medal in the 4x100m women's relay at the 1938 European Championships. Moreover, Emmy's 4x100m relay team set a world record in the semifinals at the 1936 Olympics held in Berlin, Germany and led the final until a missed exchange in the final leg. In addition, Albus finished sixth in the 100m event at the 1936 Olympics. Emmy won national championships in the 4x100m relay in both 1937 and 1938 as well as helped set two world records in the 4x100m relay in 1936 and one world record in the 4x200m relay in 1938. Albus married fellow sprinter Walter Liersch in 1958. She died at age 83 on September 20, 1995 in Berlin, Germany.
