Orazio Mariani

Champion sprinter Orazio Mariani was born on January 21, 1915 in Milano, Italy. Mariani represented Italy at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany, where he won a silver medal in the men's 4x100m relay. Orazio went on to win another silver medal in the 100 meters at the 1938 European Championships as well as was a member of the team that finished fourth in the men's 4x100m relay at that same major sports event. Moreover, Mariani won eight individual national championships altogether throughout his impressive athletic career: He not only won the 200 meters in 1943, but also won the 100 meters in 1933, 1936-1939, and 1942-1943. Orazio died at age 66 on October 16, 1981.
