Ashley Duong is a writer, producer, and director. She grew up in Calgary and is based in Montreal, Canada. She often finds her inspiration in villages, both literal villages or created communities in urban centers. Her first feature, A Time to Swim (2017), is a documentary that follows an exiled indigenous activist as he returns to his much-changed homeland in the rainforests of Borneo. It screened and received awards at many international festivals. In further collaboration with the Kelabit community in Malaysia, she also directed Re Lekuah (2018), the world's first music video in the Kelabit language, as well as Land and Legends (2017), an interactive documentary. She also makes short documentaries for CBC Arts. She has a degree in Environment Studies and Cultural Studies from McGill University. - January 3, 2019
