Vice Admiral Vincent de Poix graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1939 and went on to serve in the Navy until 1974. Trained as a Naval Aviator, he would fly missions in World War II and the Korean conflict. In 1961, then Captain de Poix became the first commanding officer of the world's first nuclear powered aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Enterprise (CVAN-65). Later on, after achieving flag rank, he commanded a carrier division in Vietnam. Before retiring from active duty, VADM de Poix became director of the Defense Intelligence Agency. VADM de Poix was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann in April 1991. They had four children: Suzanne; Carol; Christopher; and Peter. VADM de Poix was described as a very private man and wanted no fanfare or obituary when he passed away in 2015.
