Shanna May

Shanna May is an English director & cinematographer best known for her work on films such as Tainted and Lefkada: Lost in the Ionian Sea. She is a member of BECTU. Her interest in film began at age 13 experimenting with her fathers cameras at home and using her friends family camcorders. At age 15 she received her first camera and started making short videos at school. As her interest progressed, at 19 she saved up and brought a Panasonic HDC-SD700 and travelled alone to Los Angeles to meet other industry creatives and attend events such as Vidcon. She has consistently worked on short and feature films, documentaries and music videos as well as videography for smaller projects as a day job ever since. She has worked as cinematographer and camera operator on various smaller projects for film, television and web, including BBC Sport British and EU athletics championships LIVE, TEDx Brum, EPR events at BCU, ASCL Conference 2018, the red carpet at Soho International film festival and video production for Greenhous group. She's directed and acted as cinematographer on various short and feature length documentaries such as Staten Island: The forgotten borough, Lefkada: Lost in the Ionian Sea, Curso (2019), Exploring Birmingham (2018) and My Year In New York (2015). Shanna's first UK based feature film was Hello Darlin' (2020) where she worked in the camera department as a trainee alongside cinematographer Ash Connaughton and 1st AC Rory Vickers. She is also developing short animated films such as Love Birds which is in pre-production.
