Oliver Charles was born Elizabeth Caroline Kerr Charlton to mother Rosemary Kerr and father Alan Charlton. They grew up in Perth, Western Australia, where they first stepped on stage, aged six, for a junior calisthenics showcase. After declaring, "I want to do that all the time!" Oliver was signed up for ballet, singing, and then drama classes. Oliver continued their drama training through out school, and won awards at the 2015 Speech and Drama Festival in Lyrical Poetry and Monologues whilst representing Andie Holborn from Expression Drama Studio, as well as topping the state in the Trinity Guildhall Speech and Drama Examination Grade 8 and landing lead roles in school plays. Their desire to be a professional actor stems from watching Matt Smith in Doctor Who. After graduating high school at the end of 2016, Oliver felt ready to follow this dream. It was in January 2017 that Oliver came out as non-binary transgender. They took some time off to spend with friends and family, and then in May was cast in the Western Australian Youth Theatre Company production of 'Away' by Michael Gow, directed by Stuart Halusz. It was after this success that Oliver decided to take the plunge and make their acting career professional.
