Having grown up during a time of China's rapid modernization, which continues to give rise to new cultural transformations, Jiacheng's projects in photography and video have primarily been interested in the intersections of censorship, globalization, and the shifting roles of historical narrative. With Yi, her first documentary, she explores tensions in cultural identity through the everyday experiences of a Chinese migrant worker in the US, who is unable to maintain legal status here and yet is unable to return home.
