William Barry became the Chief Historian of NASA in September 2010. He joined the agency in 2001 after 22 years in the Air Force, where he flew tankers and served on the faculty of the U.S. Air Force Academy. In 1996, he received his doctorate from Oxford University, England. His dissertation was in Russian missile design bureaus and manned spaced flight in the 1960s.
