In 2017, he co-founded the independent production company, HÖMA Motion Pictures. He has won awards for both screenwriting and directing at international festivals and competitions, including Best Short Screenplay at the New York International Screenplay Awards and The Golden Script Competition. In April 2019, his meditative film "Ludere" received an Honorable Mention for Best Student Director at the Independent Shorts Awards. The film was deemed "a highly distinctive piece of experimental cinema" by Movies Brand and NoBudge founder, Kentucker Audley. By age 19, Ryan had already done work for organizations such as Google and the FADER Fort, as well as instructed youth filmmaking courses at the Workhouse Arts Center at his hometown in Lorton, Virginia. Most recently, at age 20, Ryan took home the award for Best Director at the Trinity Film Festival for his short film "You Almost Saw Me," which he wrote, directed, and produced at the age of 18, and received a nomination for Best Experimental Film at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth for his film, "Run Away, They'll See Us." Fusing drama, psychological horror, and experimental filmmaking techniques, Ryan's work is known for telling dark, tragic stories that are a reflection of our political and social climate.
