Apoorva was born and raised in Madras, a delightful conglomerate of urban villages. To hone her creative skills as a filmmaker, Apoorva travelled extensively to work on fiction and non-fiction projects, including the International Filmmaking Academy, where she trained under Academy Award-winning director Danis Tanovic and Academy Award nominee Claudia Llosa. Apoorva has always been passionate about the history of Indian cinema and its preservation for posterity. She graduated from the first cohort of Film preservation and restoration school of India organised in association with Cineteca Di Bologna, Martin Scorsese's film foundation, The International Federation of Film Archives, l'immagine Ritrovata & Film Heritage Foundation. After finishing her MFA from the Film & TV School, Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), Apoorva premiered her thesis short film, Kanya, a coming of age drama, at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival. Kanya was a semifinalist in the 2021 Student Academy Awards, placing her in the top 7% of the total number of entrants globally. Kanya's successful festival run include an official selection in Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival (USA), Raindance Film Festival (UK), Interfilm - International Short Film Festival (Germany), Short Shorts Film Festival Asia (Japan), Dharamshala International Film Festival (India) and many more. The film also garnered several award nominations and has recently premiered on the NOWNESS platform. Apoorva is currently developing her debut feature film tentatively titled Change of Heart and a young adult comedy series. Her core interest as a storyteller lies in creating character-driven narratives that explore identity, freedom, and other contemporary social themes.
