Pumpkin was a quarter horse but looked very much like the immortal Bamboo Harvester (Mr. Ed). Though he was a quarter horse and Ed was a palomino, they were identical except for a gold spot in the middle of Pumpkin's forehead. This spot was covered with white makeup when he worked as Ed's replacement. When Bamboo started to show signs of arthritis, Pumpkin stood in. Even though it was kept quiet, Bamboo was put down after he broke a leg and declined. The public didn't know because Pumpkin, who was a secret stand in, just stepped into the role completely in the show and pudding commercials. Pumpkin is remembered for keeping America's favorite talking horse, Mr.Ed, alive for many years.
