David Gordon

David Gordon is a cinematographer who currently specializes in scripted narrative feature films. He spent the majority of his adolescence moving between Illinois, South Dakota, and Northern California. With the goal of becoming a film professor, he attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, only to gradually realize his passion for cinematography. In order to pursue a career in cinematography, he remained in Chicago for several years after completing his degree, where he refined his skills in lighting and camera movement. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California as a freelance cinematographer for everything from shorts and music videos to feature films. Some of his favorite films as cinematographer include Below, a feature horror film about sharks attacking teens on a lake, The Other Foot, a short historical period film centered on role-reversed slavery, and Crying While Eating Strawberries, a fractured narrative piece focusing on an elderly man recollecting the crimes of his youth. He has a particular interest in underwater camera operation. Although he has a distinct affinity for exploring the horror genre and applying the cinematographic techniques of obscure 1980s horror films to the movies of today, his cinematography work spans all genres and includes a wide range of stylistic influences.
