Michael E. Williams (aka) "The God Father Of Comedy", played a pivotal role in the development of many comedians who have reached international "household name" status. Williams provided performance opportunities that before his entrance in the industry did not exist. In 1985 Williams opened his first comedy club, "The Comedy Act Theatre" (C.A.T) in the Leimert Park area of Los Angeles, California. Williams who met Robin Harris in 1980, knew that Harris was a natural fit to become master of ceremonies at the club. This proved to be a match made in comedy heaven, Harris held this position until his untimely death. Experiencing phenomenal success, the Leimert Park location fostered the opening of three additional clubs located in, Oakland, CA, Atlanta, GA, and Chicago, Il. Williams having established the first African American Comedy club chain witnessed a mind-boggling list of comics who found a place to be themselves while performing for an audience who identified with their particular brand of comedy and the rest is history. Due to a critical illness, Williams closed the clubs in 1997. Regaining his health, Michael E. Williams has continued to present Reunion Shows which are highly supported by the alumni of C.A.T., he is now operating now as the Comedy Act Planet, as Williams influence has gone global.
