Shahla Modir, M.D. completed residency in General Psychiatry at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and a 2 year fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Modir is double board certified. She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for Psychiatry AND Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Modir is a licensed buprenorphine provider and a dual diagnosis expert. She received an NIH grant to study the effects of acupuncture and motivational interviewing on methamphetamine withdrawal symptoms. Furthermore, she has worked as medical director and chief psychiatrist for dual diagnosis residential facilities over the past 13 years. Dr. Modir is also an Integrative Medicine expert. She is certified by UCLA-HMI to perform medical acupuncture and has completed a 2-year clinical Ayurvedic medicine specialist program. She was a Bravewell scholar and completed the Associate Fellowship at the University of Arizona Program in Integrative Medicine, headed by the famous and well-respected expert Dr. Andrew Weil. She worked as a lecturer with Dr. Deepak Chopra and as an integrative medicine specialist at the Chopra Center. Dr. Modir is the Chief Psychiatrist in the Los Angeles area at Avalon Malibu, Soba Recovery Center, and Summit Malibu providing excellence in inpatient dual diagnosis service. She has served as an Addiction Psychiatry expert on multiple TV shows including The Doctors, Dr. Oz, Dr. Drew Life Changers, and the local ABC news. She was invited to come on the Dr. Oz show as the doctor who helped save Scott Stapp's life with proper diagnosis and treatment. She also interviewed Charlie Sheen in front of an audience, discussing the possibility of bipolar disorder with him on Doctor Oz. Additionally, she was on The Doctor's TV show advising Teen Mom Kailyn whether she was misdiagnosed. She also served as an expert on The Doctor's TV show regarding ketamine and depression and provided advice on nootropics on another episode. Dr. Modir is the lead editor for the newly released textbook Integrative Addiction and Recovery, a holistic approach to the treatment of addiction published by Oxford University Press.
