It was a night in the Lattice where everything and everyone converges, some call it ‘the multiverse’, but for this case it is more accurate to call it what it really was: Hell. The meeting was arranged by a group of fans that were insterested in profetic, messianic and esoteric topics. What a wonderful time to be death.
Three great chosen ones were sharing some Steak alongside Caesars salad and smash potatoes. The three messiahs from parallel universes, each claiming divinity, each burdened by their quest for understanding in a universe that reveled in chaos. Their task according to the meeting guidelines was to bring a short topic/opinion about power, destiny, morality
Paul Atreides who argue ‘’Power corrupts, my friends. Do we not see how ambition ensnares the souls of our followers?”
Eren Yeager making the point: ‘’Morality is but a construct! It bends and twists under the weight of human desire. Those who wield power are destined choose one way or another. The choice is our greatest burden.''
Finally Lord Darth Vader “Power is an illusion. Destiny is a cruel joke,”
The air thickened as Paul raised her hand. “We each stand on different values, yet we have all sought to bring change. Isn’t the real challenge finding a moral path that uplifts humanity?”
Eren leaned forward, his eyes piercing the dark. “Limited morals have led to tyranny, and blind faith creates martyrs. A ruler must embrace fear to command respect. Humanity needs a guiding hand—not an empathetic heart.” The flames in the hall flickered as ethical weight bore down on their dinner.
Vader took a sip from his wine. “And yet, you both fail to see the futility of it all. What does it matter if we empower a society that is ultimately doomed? A fleeting victory, a momentary glimpse of hope, it will all vanish. We should revel in the chaos rather than seek to impose order.”
The table remained silent as they considered his words. Paul, although shaken, found resolve. “So we just abandon them? Every being deserves a chance, a light in their darkness. I would rather be a beacon of hope, even if it is fleeting.”
Eren’s smirk returned, sharp as a dagger. “Hope is the most potent weapon, then. If you preach it, know that it opens the door to greater agonies. Disappointment breeds the darker aspects of humanity. Is it not better to prepare them for the inevitable suffering instead?”
“But is suffering the only truth?” Paul countered. “Surely, joy and compassion can coexist with our darker natures. To love is our greatest strength, not a weakness.”
Vader chuckled darkly. “Ah, love, so easily crushed beneath despair. Tell me, Paul, what would you do with your power if it meant choosing between the happiness of one or the suffering of many? Would you shy away from the cruel choice?”
Paul’s resolve faltered momentarily. “I do not seek power for the sake of power! I would guide with compassion, even at great personal cost.”
Eren interjected, “But insist on such ideals, and you may find yourself powerless. What then? When the entire world claim for blood, will you sacrifice your people on the altar of morality?”
Their conversation swayed like the flames that encircled their table, each point igniting fervor or remorse. They spoke late into the fiery night, delving deeper into conjectures of fate and the purpose of their existences.
And as the banquet drew near its end, with dishes untouched aside from quiet contemplation, a truth loomed over them: each of their paths, though divergent, was a reflection of the same struggle—the balance of morality, power, and destiny in a cosmos that dangled the illusion of choice.
“In this hell,” Paul said.
