On this post-apocalyptic Earth, any noise can cause death - humans are threatened with extinction because of an alien being with extremely sensitive hearing. The Abbot family, consisting of the couple played by John Krasinsky and Emily Blunt, and two children, one of whom is a deaf girl, survive in this reality by trying not to make any noise. The film viscerally inserts the audience into this frightening daily life, in which routine in all its trivialities must continue and endure.
