Oswald the Rabbit dusts and oils his trolley for another day of work. He chases off the local bunnies, who are playing on it. A big, fat piglet jumps on a bit later; Oswald's method of pig-removal is to punch the porker in the face. Oswald drives up to the water tower, which is full of passengers, not water. He dumps them into his trolley, and they're off. The rabbit's first problem of the day is getting past a haughty cow who refuses to budge from the tracks. A steep hill causes him another headache, while a butt-happy goat gives him trouble at the other end. But the real trouble comes when he loses control of the car as it careens down a hillside.

Oswald attempts to win the affections of another rabbit by pretending to be a beach life guard.

Mickey is piloting a steamboat when Captain Pete comes to the bridge and throws him off. They stop to pick up cargo. Minnie just misses the boat and Mickey uses the crane to grab her. She drops her sheet music of "Turkey in the Straw" and a goat eats it. With help from Mickey, she cranks the goat's tail, and it plays the tune. Mickey accompanies on percussion and by torturing various animals, until Pete comes down and puts a stop to it, putting Mickey to work peeling potatoes. While this is the first sound Mickey Mouse, there's no dialog.

Mickey comes in his horse and buggy to pick up Minnie for the barn dance, but he's aced out by his rival, Pete, with a car, until the car breaks down. At the dance hall, Mickey dances on Minnie's feet. She rejects him to dance with Pete, until Mickey puts a helium balloon in his pants, thus making him light on his feet. Pete figures it out, punctures the balloon, and takes over, making this a rare cartoon where Pete wins.

Mickey comes onstage to the applause of an unseen audience and plays various classical tunes on the violin, after some minor mishaps. During a sad song, he is overcome with emotion and has to stop.

It's spring, and the flowers, mushrooms, and trees do their calisthentics. Some trees play a tune, using vines for harp strings and a chorus of robins. A nasty looking hollow tree does battle with a much healthier-looking tree for the attentions of a female tree, and starts a fire in the process.

Two Dutch children stumble on a clearing in the woods where gnomes are going about their business. The gnomes are friendly to the children. A witch comes and takes them away on her broom to her gingerbread house, where she turns nasty on them, turning the boy into a spider, her yowling cat to stone, and tries to turn the girl into a rat when a gnome's arrow stops her. While the gnomes are fighting the witch, Hansel and Gretl free the other children who have been imprisoned and transformed by the witch.

Santa's little helpers must hurry to finish the toys before Christmas Day.

The princess (Minnie) is to wed the Prince (Goofy, still known as Dippy Dawg) against her wishes. When she refuses, her father the king locks her in the tower. Minstrel Mickey sees her and rescues her, making a rope from the clothes of lady-in-waiting Clarabell. The king spots them and prepares to chop off Mickey's head until Minnie intercedes. The king calls for a joust. Mickey wins, and they live happily ever after.

The two pigs building houses of hay and sticks scoff at their brother, building the brick house. But when the wolf comes around and blows their houses down (after trickery like dressing as a foundling sheep fails), they run to their brother's house. And throughout, they sing the classic song, "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?".

The people of Hamelin, overrun with rats, offer a bag of gold to anyone who can get rid of the rats. A piper offers to do the job, and successfully lures the rats into a mirage of cheese, which disappears. The citizens, disappointed that all he did was play a tune, offer only pocket change. The piper, angered, plays a new tune that has all the children of the city follow him, even the new twins the stork is preparing to deliver.

As in the classic fable, the grasshopper plays his fiddle and lives for the moment, while the industrious ants squirrel away massive amounts of food for the winter. With his song, he's able to convince at least one small ant until the queen arrives and scares him back to work. The queen warns the grasshopper of the trouble he'll be in the coming winter. Winter comes, and the grasshopper, near starvation, stumbles across the ants, who are having a full-on feast in their snug little tree. They took him in and warmed him up. The queen tells him only those who work can eat so he must play for them.
