The story is inspired by a real event that happened in Belgrade in 2016. Three French citizens kidnapped a baby from the mother's arms with the intent of swapping it for another infant that looks alike. This was done to facilitate DNA testing in France, aiming to demonstrate that the child's presumed father was not, in fact, the biological parent. The kidnappers were arrested on the same day. The event is just a starting point of inspiration for creating an original series in which all motives, characters, plots, resolutions are dramatically adapted. The story has been placed in Denmark instead of France. The abduction of a child, as an act the viewer is strongly identified with, sets in motion a complex tale of power, manipulation, and class disparities, where a house cleaner, confronted with the injustices of the upper classes, enters into a secret agreement regarding the kidnapping in order to protect her own child. At the heart of this story is the parents' struggle for their own children, no matter how challenging their attempts at rescue may be.
