In 1870...the most hardcore, highly decorated, and most minimally celebrated, military unit ever created by the US Army were the Seminole Negro Indian Scouts - They were promised land and food for their families in exchange for helping the US Army fight against the Plains Indians. The Scouts kept up their end of the bargain by never losing a battle which solidified Westward expansion- The US Army did not honor their promise. Then the government tried to erase them from existence - It didn't work.
