The first of its kind, this cinematic novel follows an 11-year-old girl named Sara through the foster care system after her parents are arrested. The foster home Sara ends up in is fairly nice, but her positive attitude makes it even better. After her parents go to prison and lose custody, Sara is placed in a long-term foster home. Soon, Sara loses the excitement and imagination she once had. Her new caregiver, Miss Mallory, is unkind and eventually, Sara's positive attitude falters. One day while Sara is distraught, she wanders away from the house, finds a horse pasture adjacent to the foster home, and befriends the horse there. Eventually, Sara meets Juliet, the owner of the horse, and tells her about her troubles in foster care. Juliet encourages Sara to love others even when other people don't seem to deserve it. Juliet invites Sara and Bella, another foster child, over for dinner. Later, Sara and Bella are removed from Miss Mallory's care. After months of moving from foster home to foster home, Sara meets the couple seeking to adopt her--Juliet and her husband, Leo.
