Upholder is a British docu-drama surrounding the heroic events of His Majesty's Submarine 'Upholder' in May 1941. It is a testament to the bravery of her men and Captain who was award the Victoria Cross for his actions, and to all those who have served beneath the waves during the Second World War. HMS Upholder, commissioned into the Royal Navy in October 1940 was commanded for her entire career by Lieutenant-Commander Malcolm Wanklyn VC, DSO & two Bars and became the most successful British submarine of the Second World War. Her Captain in her own right, was and still is to date, the Royal Navy's most successful submarine commander and one of the most successful submariners in the Western Allied navies during the Second World War with 17 ships sunk, 1 destroyed with charges and another 6 damaged, totalling 132,680 tons during a career of 26 patrols until his death when Upholder was lost with all hands in April 1942.
