Couples marry on live television and receive a lavish wedding, including formal outfits for themselves and their attendants, music from an organist, a harpist, and a solo singer. The host(s) interviewed the couples to learn about their romance before the ceremony. After the wedding the lucky pair got about $2,000 worth of gifts at their reception. all elaborately plugged on behalf of the show's sponsors, plus a free weeklong honeymoon and a Pontiac car on loan for a week. In the early years, the show rotated roughly 30 ministers to officiate the ceremonies. The series received more than 70,000 letters from prospective couples wanting to be on it.
