Curiously, this version makes Hannibal, Missouri look like a town in the Old West and there are gunfights in the street. A man is punched in the face. A character is knocked unconscious with a board. Tom and Huck witness a character being stabbed to death. A character falls to his death. A young man is beaten by his father. A drunken character tries to stab his son.

Frequent drinking by male characters. A couple of supporting characters are alcoholics.

Huck often smokes a pipe. Tom frequently shares Huck's pipe.
