Much like "Serial Experiments Lain" and "Neon Genesis Evangelion", this anime is VERY confusing and full of stuff that's hard to understand on a first-watch, and it gets more and more surreal and bizarre as it goes on. All of this is only enhanced by the anime's breathtakingly beautiful animation, which might be overwhelming for most viewers.
Some of the violence might be intense.
A man transforms into some kind of creature, and his appearance might frighten some viewers.
This whole anime is extraordinarily psychologically and philosophically dense, as well as incredibly thematically profound, extremely suspenseful, exceptionally bleak, and very intense. Complete with a colossally dark atmosphere that's grungy and gritty to an absurdly unearthly extreme, an exceedingly abstract and experimental storyline full of extremely confusing, esoteric and thought-provoking themes, symbolism and motifs, and various moments of high unease and tension.
