3 Men and a Bulb (2006)

This is the story of three men who are Gharatswamis (watermill owners) living in the beautiful yet hostile terrain of the Himalayan foothills in Northern India. Rawat is the mill owner and Satya is his business partner. They also work with Harish, Rawat's nephew, who has been chosen to continue the family industry after he finishes his education. However, Harish, bored of his school and frustrated in his community, would rather move to the city with its elusive promise of potential wealth and prosperity. Rawat worries about his daughter's marriage and balancing the books, Satya grieves for his first wife and needs to succeed with the mill to provide for his second wife and new baby. The Gharat (watermill) could represent a utopian self-sufficiency within the rural economy of the area yet it has led to disputes and enmity at times. The corn is ground, though water is scarce, and electricity is generated for the local villagers. What emerges is a story of three men each coming to terms with their own physical and emotional conflicts and their desire to live a better life somewhere beyond their current hardships.
