In 1991, 67 families were granted land in Santana do Livramento by INCRA (the National Institute for Colonisation and Agrarian Reform). What could have meant the start of a process to reduce socio-economic inequalities through the agrarian reform programme became one of the biggest clashes between the Landless Rural Workers' Movement (MST) and part of the Santana do Livramento political and economic elite. From petitions rejecting the presence of the settlers in Santana do Livramento to the attempt to create militias to expel them, to the struggles for education, health, transport, etc., the documentary revisits the main moments in the 30-year history of the Liberdade no Futuro settlement.
