Fifty years after Georges Braque, contemporary artist Anselm Kiefer was invited to create a decorative work for the Louvre. The resulting work, a painting entitled Athanor, now adorns a staircase in the Department of Egyptian Antiquities. This film travels between the museum and Kiefer's studio in Barjac (in the Gard region), and features interviews and conversations with Louvre director Henri Loyrette and contemporary art curator Marie-Laure Bernadac; it gradually brings to light the methods of this complex artist and the creation of a monumental painting, and presents Anselm Kiefer's personal approach to the Louvre.
