Mukisa (2022)

After Mukisa loses her husband in a car accident and refuses to follow the cultural practice of becoming his brother's wife, she embarks on her journey of following her dream of becoming a beautician in the small village where she has lived all her life. Selling off a portion of her late husband's land, she acquires enough money to open up a salon in an environment where the local women view makeup as something that only women of questionable virtue use. Through social media videos, Mukisa teaches herself what she feels are the skills that would pave her road to success. When she opens the doors to her salon, she struggles to convince anyone to visit until an older woman, Mwagale walks in asking for a job. Desperate for companionship and for a chance as success, Mukisa and Mwagale form an unlikely bond and set out to change the female's populace mind-set in the village in regards to makeup and to win a social media competition that will change both their lives in unforeseen ways.
