Once again, 16-year-old Jonas starts at a new school and, as always, he has no intention of succeeding as anyone's darling, but instead lets his anger at the world run wild. Jonas has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, is wheelchair-bound and knows that he will die sooner rather than later from this incurable and progressive disease. His mother Alma, who is raising Jonas alone and would rather take a second job than forego therapy for him, is determined to delay the deterioration. She took Jonas to Dr. Wildenhahn, a capacity for Duchenne. The doctor actually manages to be taken seriously by Jonas. Until he gets to know Emily better, Marianne Wildenhahn's daughter, who is in his class. Emily has a massive academic downturn, which she hides from her mother because of her high standards. She falls in love with Jonas. Emily's genuine affection gives him the courage to love her back. Emily and Jonas become a couple, overcoming all obstacles. But Marianne fears that her unstable daughter might be overwhelmed by the relationship with a terminally ill person. Alma, on the other hand, is afraid that Jonas will slip away from her. They both only want the best for their child. Which for both of them means stopping the love between the two teenagers. Because none of them believe it is possible that Emily and Jonas themselves know what is best.
