Hippos of Crocodile River (2020)

The Luangwa River's hippos face a mysterious and deadly peril as their carcasses line the riverbanks, providing a grim feast for crocodiles. We follow two hippo bachelors and a young mother with her calf, who journey towards this deadly zone during the harsh dry season. With their lagoon homes dried up, hippos struggle to find space in the shrinking river. After a face-off with the dominant river bull, the bachelors are chased away, searching for mud pools to survive until the rains. Amid diminishing water and exhausting treks for food, an insidious threat looms anthrax. As spores contaminate the environment, tragedy strikes when the mother succumbs to the disease, leaving her calf alone. The bachelors feed in solitude to evade the ruling bull, but as water sources dwindle, they face the dangers of disease and the threat of returning to confront the river master. Can they survive this relentless Hippo Hell?
