The Endless Potential in Playing Pretend (2022)

The film begins with Cassie, a background character that needs to survive her day by taking pills. She enters the Musical high school, where everything is good and the main characters sing and dance. As the Opening number focuses on the popular girl Kristy and her jock lackey Chad, Cassie attempts a solo and is shut down by her crush Jason. Feeling put down, she opens her locker to find a futuristic watch; curious, she presses it, inadvertently changing the Musical into a Horror flick. Kristy and Chad morph into creatures that start attacking students, and Cassie grabs Jason, the two running outside. The watch recharges and Cassie presses a button, changing the genre from Horror to Fantasy. Cassie and Jason are attacked by Kristy and Chad but are saved by Cassie's mom, Deborah. She hands Cassie a manual for the watch and cryptically instructs her to keep them in a safe genre, adamant that they do not move forward.
