After a fight with her parents, Grace waits on a park swing for her girlfriend, Phoebe, to pick her up and take her for a drive. Phoebe arrives with music blaring and attempts to cheer Grace up, but Grace takes her frustration out on Phoebe. Eventually they decide to embark on a road trip with no plan or destination in mind, just an escape from their suburban realities. Phoebe and Grace are enjoying each other's company until the car breaks down and their adventure is put on hold. Grace pushes the car, as Phoebe steers, all the way to the nearest layby. They wait for half an hour for someone to drive past with no success. After Phoebe decides that they should start walking to find a solution, Grace discovers a leaflet for the University of Milan in the back of the car. Phoebe reveals that she planned to study there, but didn't know how to tell Grace, who is upset by the revelation. Grace explains how she fears being left alone in her small town as everyone else lives their lives and calls Phoebe's life 'perfect', to which Phoebe reveals that her life is far from perfect and she wants to be independent at this point in her life. Grace and Phoebe argue and realise that, although they love each other, they can't be together right now. The pair walk in silence until they come a cross an abandoned petrol station. Although there is some tension between them at first, it quickly resolves itself as the girls work together to retrieve a petrol can, forcing them to overcome the tension. They walk back towards the car and fill it up. Grace realises how ready Phoebe is to move on in her life. Phoebe proposes they run away together for the summer, before she has to go to university, so they don't have to argue about their emotional differences anymore. Grace agrees, a temporary solution to the future heartbreak. They get in the car, and turn the key.
