Distance (2022)

During a global pandemic, Laszlo isolates himself in his apartment out of fear of contamination. He avoids any kind of human contact - even to his wife Sabina and his two sons, who are temporarily staying at their country-side house. Until one evening the new neighbor Zoe rings at his doorbell. A game of observing each other through the window begins. After an argument with her boyfriend Karl, Laszlo lets her stay at his and has no idea that this brief encounter will have unforeseen consequences. All important pillars of his life personally, professionally and financially threaten to collapse. The provocative nature of Zoe brings out a truth in Laszlo that has seemed to simmer in him for a long time. Only when Laszlo lets go of his deepest fears a radical change starts to unravel. The film describes the urge for liberation from the constantly growing social restrictions and complexity. "Distanz" is a reflection of our society today.
