Lu Shin is a young man that comes to South America from his native Canton in the late 19th century. They are tricked with a promise of work and opportunity that turns out to be a form of slavery, doing forced labor in the guano mines with thousands of other Chinese immigrants. Separated from his family, he meets Yu Mei, a young Chinese woman, and they fall in love. Lu Shin survives thanks to his martial art skills and his intelligence, earning his freedom, but he can't rescue Yu Mei. When invading Peruvian territory, commander Patricio Lynch liberates hundreds of Chinese slaves from the guano mines and the plantations. The freed Chinese, in the middle of a war that isn't theirs, don't know where to go, so they follow Lynch. When they reach the town where Lu Shin lives, he finds his brother among the liberated slaves, and meets his wife, who turns out to be Yu Mei. Lynch hires Lu Shin as a guide, and he will become his translator, friend and confidante. To distract himself from his forbidden love, Lu Shin organizes and commands a Chinese battalion that will change history. Lu Shin, the "Warrior of the Celestial Empire" and Lynch, dubbed "the Red Prince" by the Chinese, share a journey into the heart of war, forced to make decisions that involve sacrifice, loss and death. Lu Shin and his battalion are key to the conquest of Lima, where he manages to save his sister from the great massacre of Chinese, but not his father, who reveals a tragic secret with his last breath: it was Lynch that killed his grandparents in Canton, during the Opium Wars, when he was a cadet in the British Navy. Will he meet his destiny?
