When the airline invited the relatives to the memorial service in the Grand Hotel Heiligendamm, Thomas Wintersperger and his wife Sonja also took part to say goodbye to their daughter Anna. Because he wants to stay close to her in order to process his pain, Thomas spontaneously buys a run-down grocer's shop near the scene of the accident and turns it into a bar. His wife shows no understanding that Thomas is ready to give up his prosperous company and his previous life in order to build a new life in the east German province. The couple initially go their separate ways. The resolute waitress Wiebke introduces Thomas to the local secrets of the sometimes bizarre villagers. The pub slowly revives the sleepy harbor and brings movement into the village. Over time, new friendships develop, short love affairs and old stories catch up with people. In all of this, Thomas manages to come to terms with his grief. It even becomes a catalyst between people.
