Our Fathers' Sea (2018)

A reflection upon the deep and enduring relationship between language and the environment. Following fisherman Domhnall on his hunt for lobster around the islands of Benbecula and South Uist, we come to understand how the sea is not a blank slate, but rather is constituted through intricate webs of inherited knowledge handed down over generations, with each fishing ground, each technique, each creature accorded its place within the Scottish Gaelic language. The spectre of ever-tightening marine regulations threatens not only fishing, but the language and culture of the isles themselves.
