Alexandrina, a naturalized Canadian, must urgently fly to Romania to see her mother, Maria, recently diagnosed with dementia. Despite her strong desire to help her family, Alexandrina will only be able to stay in her childhood home for seven short days. Far from being just a battle for Maria's health, her return will become, against all odds, a confrontation with the deeper questions that rack her mind. Maria will thus become, through her dementia, the mirror of a past that Alexandrina has long wanted to leave behind; she materializes the conflicts of her daughter's departure, its causes and consequences. Her return brings back to mind the ghosts of the past, with its communism and dictatorship, which several years ago made her depart, along with ten percent of the population of this country.
