Gary Rafferty is a young screenwriter who has written a successful dramedy show for Sylvia Taft, the head of broadcaster Group T's Drama and Light Entertainment division. To maintain his profession, Gary has cut off contact with his family and friends, which has left him depressed and resentful of his work, believing that his scripts are not honest reflections of himself. After experiencing a hallucinatory vision, Gary writes a new script as a form of catharsis, but fears that submitting such a personal work will tarnish his working relationship with Sylvia. Seeking advice from his old college friend Jim, he credits the script to an alias, but decides to take the risk and credit himself after remembering Sylvia's advice to take pride in his work.
