In 1883 in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Navy rebelled against the government of the country (an episode known as the Revolt of the Navy). Six months of intense fighting resulted in incalculable material and human losses. Inside one of the Navy's ships, a defector is captured. The Commander punishes the French mercenary in an exemplary manner, with the most unlikely of punishments: the torture of silence.
