The industrialist Wolfer enjoyed life. The situation has not changed under Kerensky's Provisional Government (following the February 1917 Revolution). But waking up after another drinking party, Wolfer is horrified to find that the October Revolution has occurred. Troubles falls on the head of the manufacturer - the mansion is requisitioned, jewelry is seized, and he is sent to clean the streets. Then he flee to Paris. After a series of setbacks, he finds a job as a circus clown. With a painted face, he is a tragicomic image of Russian emigration.
