Hymn to Otsuchi takes place in Japan following the tragic events of the 2011 tsunami in Otsuchi. After losing more than half the population, a man takes it upon himself to help the city heal. He creates a telephone booth that leads to nowhere, but carries their voices through the wind. We follow his journey as well as three other people's experience of grief through their interactions with the booth. It is an exploration of loss from the perspective of a child, a mother, a son, and a father and husband. Each are faced with trying to find the right words to say. The film features a series of vignettes that journey through certain stages of grief, ultimately resolving on acceptance and peace. The story is inspired by true events.
