On his surfboard made of old plastic bottles, Merijn Tinga undertook an amazing journey. In order to raise public awareness about plastic pollution, the Dutch activist followed the course of the Rhine over 1200 kilometers, from its source to Rotterdam. Campaigning for a deposit system that would allow the collection and recycling of used bottles, especially those made of polyterephthalate (PET), the environmental activist is not alone. While his compatriot Dick Groot is surveying the countryside to geolocate the innumerable wastes with his phone, in Haiti, The Plastic Bank, a social and solidarity-based start-up created by Canadians David Katz and Shaun Frankson, is buying back the plastic waste brought back by the inhabitants.
