In 1921, in an Italian area called "The Flats" in the small town of Oneida, New York, on a warm black night, a shot split the darkness and Joseph Gulla was dead. The events leading up to and surrounding his death are still a mystery. All that is left are news clippings and folklore. Joseph worked hard to come to America. Soon, he had a thriving rooming house called, The Union Hotel, complete with a bar and a bakery. Once established, he sent to Calabria for his wife Marianna and ten-year-old son. Within a few years he was blessed with three daughters. He thought his life would be family dinners and joyful holidays surrounded by his children and someday grandchildren. Fate had other plans. Joseph's story may not have been unique for the time except that a horrific accident, a kidnapping and a large family question swirl in it's wake. This is not just Joseph's story, but the story of his family and the tragedies they bore yet managed to thrive. Through actual news clippings, the story of Joseph and his family is pieced together in a gripping tale of mystery and unanswered questions.
