Inches (2020)

On a night orchestrated with the distant echoes of police sirens, Jakob and Carlos drive through the streets looking for a spot to get high at. Things are tense between them as Jakob has just been suspended from University for two weeks following him taking the blame for Carlos' actions, who shows no remorse. The two arrive at the park with a broken lighter. Surrounded by uneasy darkness, the two become increasingly anxious in the empty space. As they make towards the car, they realize they are not moving any closer nor further from their vehicle as if they're stuck in this empty black void. After the two are briefly separated, Carlos blames Jakob for the predicament they're in. This being the last straw to the already fragile friendship, and with seemingly no way to escape the void, Jakob abruptly murders Carlos by strangling him to death. As Carlos breathes his final breath, Jakob finally looks up only to stare at his reflection on his car's side view mirror, mere inches away from the vehicle. As we cut to black, a police siren blips from behind.
