Abigail's Dawning (2020)

A young woman suffering from addiction and homelessness, Abigail wanders the city on a cold winter late afternoon, trying to score crack. As she suffers withdrawal more acutely, she gets together what little money she's made selling stolen lighters, ending up getting high in a hallway somewhere. The street man who helped her steal the lighters from a bodega stalks her and shows up after dark, stealing all the lighters, her slippers and coats, and leaving Abigail freezing to death on a curb. She finds some matches in her pockets, and her cognition suffering as her hypothermia worsens, she lights them in the desperate drive to warm herself. Slipping in and out of hallucinations and dreams of happier times in her past, the specters of betrayal and abuse invade even the pleasant visions. Finally death approaches, as people celebrate New Year's Eve around the city. Abigail's grandmother appears and together they escape one last time.
