My Father's Other Family (2020)

Following her father Alan Parker's passing, high end restaurateur Shelby Parker is moving into his house with her boyfriend Luke Paine doing the necessary renovations. But she is feeling at a loss in he having been her last blood relation in the world, and realizing that she really didn't know much about him or his life. Taking a DNA test, a gift from Luke, Shelby discovers that she has a half sister about who she was never aware. Deciding to meet her, Shelby finds that she is Rose McHenry, whose stories about who she knew as "Alan Parker" fits in some missing puzzle pieces from Shelby's stories of her father. Unlike Shelby's rather comfortable life enabled by her father, Rose has had a hard knock life. With Alan having abandoned her and her mother Thora McHenry when she was a preteen, Rose had to drop out of high school as a junior to care for Thora, who came down with debilitating chronic health problems. As such, Rose works several jobs, including as a server in a diner, to make ends meet with help from her boyfriend Travis, while taking care of Thora. After an uncomfortable start, Shelby and Rose form a bond. It is a potentially deadly situation as one in this collective becomes a target due to this new sisterly connection.
