Luis and Carlos, two peasant brothers, flee across the moor after stealing an indigenous treasure. When a dog bites Luis' leg and injures him, they have to stop in the middle of a forest of "frailejones" (native plant of the moor). Carlos, desperate to find help, takes the indigenous treasure and tells his brother he's going for help. Carlos' departure has a deep effect on Luis, who gradually comes to feel betrayed. Fever, dehydration and loneliness begin to affect Luis' sanity, causing him to hallucinate and making him believe that the spirit of the indigenous treasure has come to haunt him.
