"Why is life the way it is?" is the first movie in Spanish based on a podcast. Directed by Olallo Rubio, "Why is life the way it is?" is docucomedy that explores the national character of the Mexican people in a satirical tone. The film throws questions such as: Why is the Mexican so festive, joyful and welcoming? Why is the Mexican corrupt, lazy and deceitful? Why is the Mexican so contradictory? Can the average Mexican relate to the archetype promoted in advertising and government propaganda? Is there a true identity which defines the Mexican, or has it all been a cover up used by the elites in order to dominate and manipulate society? ¿Por Qué? (Why?), the podcast that inspired the documentary is an original and exclusive production of Convoy Network. On each episode, the podcast aims to respond both the greatest, most universal questions, as well as the silliest ones that every human being has ever asked himself or the world. For example: Why are the Earth and other planets spherical? Why is the sky blue? Why do we get the hiccups? Why do we get hangovers? Why do men have nipples? Why is the anti-vaccine community so big? Why are there so many Americans that would happily vote again for Donald Trump? Why is no one doing anything to stop global warming? To this day, "Por Que" remains as one of the most popular podcasts in Latin America.
