Shot in and around Kansas City, Missouri's newly built but unfinished homes, Don't Go Back To Sleep is a haunted comedy born out of the tenuous relations of strangers. In a series of uncanny scenes involving medical professionals preparing for impending disaster, a dark joking emerges alongside efforts at collaboration under pressure. Squatting suburban developments and luxury high-rises left vacant as a result of the economic crash, nurses and doctors establish temporary triage centers within the architectural mundane. An ensemble cast of mostly non-actors perform scripted and improvised scenarios in which their agency becomes central to the film's construction. Kahn's camera work, sound design, editing and original scores (created with musician Keith Wood) play with reconfigurations of space, time, materiality and the overworking of nature.
