Ash: The Art of Wayne Gilbert (2017)

Filmmaker Wayne Slaten delivers an academic look into the work of Texas painter Wayne Gilbert whose controversial artwork is created with cremated human remains. This film documents Gilbert's creative process, showing him at work in his studio along with a series of interviews with the artist, as well as some of his contemporaries and critics adding context to the artist's body of work. Wayne Gilbert's paintings utilize unclaimed human remains donated from funeral homes resulting in pieces that literally skirt the line between life and death.
